MEDFORD, Ore. The Jackson County District Attorney s office will not pursue the prosecution of a local volunteer fire chief who was cited by Oregon State Police after picking up a black bear yearling east of Ashland earlier this month.
According to the DA s office, Oregon State Police troopers were dispatched to an area along Highway 66 near Ashland around 9 a.m. on April 7 for reports of a bear cub spotted in the area. Though a trooper did respond, they were unable to find the bear.

WHITE CITY, Ore. The Jackson County Sheriff s Office says that one of the people who suffered burns in a major fire in White City on Wednesday night has died in the hospital.
In a statement on Thursday, the Sheriff s Office said that at least three people suffered injuries in the fire two of them hospitalized and transported to OHSU in Portland with severe burns. The agency confirmed Friday that one of the men later died from his injuries.

Sheriff s deputies, firefighters, and paramedics responded to reports of an explosion and fire at the industrial building in the 1500-block of Antelope Road shortly after 8 p.m.
