The health department reported 39 new coronavirus cases Wednesday, along with a 10.1% positivity rate. “To put that in perspective a little bit, we were seeing increases in a weeks time of 500 and above during the month of December. Since last Wednesday, we’ve only increased 277 new cases,” Tedford said.

JMCSS opens calendar for comments, provides update on new schools

WBBJ TV January 25, 2021 JACKSON, Tenn. There are some updates on new schools opening in Jackson, as well as new things parents need to know. Residents can see the construction progress made at the new Jackson Central-Merry High School and Madison Academic High School. The plans remain unchanged: both are slated to open in the fall. “Will we [be] able, in August…for both schools to be open?” said Doris Black, the School Board Legislative Liaison. “At the current time, we are on schedule for both schools to be open in August,” said Chris Alexander, a Health Community LLC developer. Construction on both schools was part of the update at the meeting for Jackson-Madison County School System’s Long Range Planning Committee.

JMCSS reveals plan for second half of school year

JMCSS to limit attendance at athletic events

WBBJ TV December 21, 2020 JACKSON, Tenn. The Jackson-Madison County School System announced Monday that the district has made changes to the number of people who will be allowed to attend winter sports games. According to a news release, admittance to games will be limited to immediate family members of players, cheerleaders, and coaches. Each team participating in games at Jackson-Madison County Schools facilities will be limited to two tickets per player, according to the release. The release says this will apply to Jackson-Madison County middle and high schools, as well as visiting teams. Jackson-Madison County Schools basketball teams are not scheduled to resume play until after Jan. 1, 2021, according to the release.

JMCSS says hybrid schedule to continue into next semester

WBBJ TV December 16, 2020 JACKSON, Tenn. The Jackson-Madison County School System says it is will continue with its hybrid schedule in January. A news release from JMCSS says that the hybrid schedule will continue during the next semester, which begins on January 5. “Even as larger school districts have shifted to all virtual learning, our schools are still offering in-person connections for students with hybrid instruction. This is a significant feat on the part of our educators,” said JMCSS Superintendent Dr. Marlon King. “The hybrid schedule has helped create some sense of normalcy by allowing students to be in the building. I would say that at a minimum the hybrid schedule is a necessity in this current climate for student success and in preparing students for their future,” said Jackson Central-Merry Early College High algebra teacher David Westberry.
