A workforce development center being renovated behind Jackson Central-Merry Early College High will have seven programs available for all Jackson-Madison County School System high schools, house the renowned Local Options and Opportunities Program (LOOP) and offer more than one path to students goals, according to career and technical education director and JCM-ECH principal Nathan Lewis.
Each umbrella area – health sciences, welding and advanced manufacturing – will have a classroom with a lab adjacent to it for students to immediately transition to hands-on activities to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom.
Under health science, there are four programs: Diagnostic Services, Nursing Services, Sport and Human Performance and Therapeutic Services. Advanced manufacturing includes mechatronics and machining, and welding is its own program.

The release from JMCSS says Lewis has been in the role since 2016.
“Dr. Lewis is responsible for a number of improvements JMCSS has made in the last several years. From securing thousands of dollars in robotics grants for our middle schools, to enhancing the academic status of JCM-Early College High through Computer Science and Coding opportunities, Dr. Leis is a rising administrative star in this state and he’s taken the JCM brand to new heights each year,” said Dr. Marlon King, the superintendent for JMCSS.
Lewis says it has been his passion to help students.
“My passion has always been to help students in our community set and achieve their academic goals. We know formal education or technical training past high school are keys to success. And it’s our job as educators to encourage all students to find a path in those directions,” Lewis said.

JACKSON, Tenn. The Jackson-Madison County School System says it is will continue with its hybrid schedule in January.
A news release from JMCSS says that the hybrid schedule will continue during the next semester, which begins on January 5.
“Even as larger school districts have shifted to all virtual learning, our schools are still offering in-person connections for students with hybrid instruction. This is a significant feat on the part of our educators,” said JMCSS Superintendent Dr. Marlon King.
“The hybrid schedule has helped create some sense of normalcy by allowing students to be in the building. I would say that at a minimum the hybrid schedule is a necessity in this current climate for student success and in preparing students for their future,” said Jackson Central-Merry Early College High algebra teacher David Westberry.
