Mattapoisett special election schedule

Jun 1, 2021 MATTAPOISETT Friday is the last day to request nomination papers for the Mattapoisett Special Town Election.  Last month, the Select Board approved a July 27 election to fill the Select Board position left by the death of John DeCosta in April.  DeCosta’s term would have ended on Town Election day in 2023. The winner of the July 27 election will serve the rest of that term. Nomination papers  must be filed with the Board of Registrars by June 8. Then, then, candidates must return their nomination papers to the town clerk’s office by 5 p.m. on June 27. The last day to object or withdraw from the election is June 24, and the final day to register to vote for the election is July 7.

Photo by: Aidan Pollard MATTAPOISETT The voters have decided: Jodi Lynn Bauer will be Mattapoisett’s newest Select Board member. Of the 5,593 eligible voters in town, 1,994 about 35.7% turned out to vote in Tuesday’s Town Election. Bauer won retiring Board Chair Paul Silva’s seat with 1,154 votes. Her competitor, Nicki Demakis, earned 821 votes. There were no write-ins, but 19 voters left the ballot question blank.

MATTAPOISETT A special Town Election will be held on July 27 to fill the Select Board position left by the death of John DeCosta last month. DeCosta’s term would have ended on Town Election day in 2023. The winner of the July 27 election will serve the rest of that term. “Having, a year ago, operated with two members on the board for six months … it’s absolutely something that has to be done,” Board Chair Paul Silva said.

Aidan Pollard May 12, 2021 MATTAPOISETT Town Election will be on May 18, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Old Hammondtown School, with 11 elected offices and a question on the ballot. Leading the ballot is the race for the newly renamed Select Board, between Nicki Demakis and Jodi Lynn Bauer. The two are vying for Paul Silva’s position on the board, as he chose not to seek another term. Two positions on the Mattapoisett School Committee are open: Incumbent Jim Muse’s seat, for which he is seeking reelection, and a seat left open by Carol Clifford, who chose not to run for reelection.
