FORT WORTH, Texas Tarrant County officials are working to bring a mental health jail diversion center that would serve as an alternative to putting people behind bars. This week, leaders said that the plan appears to be on the fast track.
Officials said the mental health jail diversion center would be a partnership that involves Tarrant County, John Peter Smith Hospital, My Health My Resources (MHMR), and law enforcement.
County leaders said the center will serve as a place where officers can take people with mental illnesses who would normally be detained for a non-violent, low-level crime. This means that people would not go to jail and instead be taken to the center.

Billy Joe Saunders has vowed to resume his boxing career after undergoing surgery on multiple fractures to his orbital bone and a broken cheekbone during a brutal defeat to Canelo Alvarez last week.
Saunders, 31, was unable to continue the fight after he was caught by an uppercut in the eighth round of the world title unification bout.
Canelo beat Saunders to add the WBO belt to his WBA (Super), WBC, and The Ring super middleweight titles.
What has Saunders said?
“Thanks everyone for the messages. Broken eye socket and broken cheek bone in three places. Operation yesterday all went well,” Saunders said on Facebook.

Mark Tibbs has denied claims that Billy Joe Saunders wanted to be pulled out of his fight with Canelo Alvarez on Saturday and insists it was his decision after not receiving the response he required.
Saundersâ right eye closed almost instantly from a huge uppercut from Canelo in the eighth round of their Super Middleweight unification showdown at AT & T Stadium, Texas, promoting Tibbs to pull the Brit out when he returned to the corner.
For Saunders, it was a tough way to suffer his first career loss as he appears to have suffered an injury during the defeat, but he is still one of the top boxers in the world and one loss won’t ruin his career. Save for Floyd Mayweather Jr., no one has been able to get past Alvarez, so there is no shame in losing to him. The fact that Saunders was somewhat competitive up until the stoppage is something he can take away from the fight on a positive note that can hopefully help him rebound in the future when he returns.
