Klan-tied ex-governor s name coming off university building

January 26, 2021 GMT JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) Jacksonville State University is the latest Alabama institution removing the name of former Gov. Bibb Graves from one of its buildings. Graves was a supporter of segregation, first elected governor in 1926 with the help of the Ku Klux Klan. AL.com reports that Jacksonville State announced Tuesday that Graves’ name would be removed from its administration building. The building will be renamed Angle Hall to honor alumni Marcus E. Angle Jr. and his wife Mary alumni who met at the university as undergraduates. Jacksonville State said the Angles made a private donation to the university to secure naming rights for the building.
