Search By Live95 News Team Doras has welcomed the government s white paper on ending Direct Provision, which was published today.
The paper sets out that all direct provision centres will now close by then end of 2024, abolishing a system set up almost 21 years ago.
Doras, a human rights organisation based in Limerick, is calling it a significant milestone in putting an end to the system and replacing it with a new not-for-profit reception system
“While the campaign to end Direct Provision is far from over”, said John Lannon, Doras CEO, “we are relieved to see the White Paper reflect a number of recommendations from the Day report, released in October. This is a significant milestone in the long campaign to end Direct Provision, and we broadly welcome the plans to replace it, outlined by the Department of Children, Equality, Disability and Youth.”
