Man seriously injured after being struck with tomahawk – East Maitland
A man has been seriously injured during an affray in the state’s Hunter region overnight.
Just before 8pm (Tuesday 13 July 2021), a 28-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man were inside a home on Alliance Street, East Maitland, when three men and two women arrived at the home.
Police have been told the two groups were arguing when the situation escalated, and the 28-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted.
It’s then alleged one of the men has struck the 35-year-old resident several times in the back with a tomahawk.

Belmont Vaccine Hub Gets An Opening Date

The Hunter’s mass Covid-19 vaccination hub at the former Belmont Bunnings will open it’s doors on July 19.
The vacant warehouse has spent the past few weeks being transformed into a built-for-purpose clinic capable of delivering up to 20,000 vaccines a week.
It boasts medical treatment bays, waiting areas, a pharmacy preparation area, storage and staff and public amenities.
Staff are also primed and ready, with 200 nurses, 25 pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, and around 200 support staff set to carry out the operation.
Those who are eligible for the vaccine will be able to book in from Monday July 12 via Health Direct’s Eligibility Checker.
The clinic will have the capacity to administer up to 20,000 vaccinations a week.
The Pfizer vaccine will be first to be administered.
Appointments will become available at the centre on Monday.
Up to 100 nurses, 25 pharmacists and around 200 other support staff will help run the centre.
“The COVID vaccine is our best chance of keeping the virus at bay and ensuring we keep our communities safe. I encourage everyone to get the jab when it’s their turn,” said Hunter New England Local Health District Chief Executive, Michael DiRenzo.
