Wyoming’s high school graduation rates improved for the seventh consecutive year, increasing to 82.3% in 2019-2020, according to information released by the Wyoming Department of Education (WDE).
In the release it was reported that 18 school districts in the state posted graduation rated of 90% or higher, including Sheridan County School District #1 at 92.3%; and Sheridan County School District #3 at 90.0%.
State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jillian Balow said, “When we work hand-in-hand with our school districts to make sure every student can succeed, good things happen. Wyoming continues to set high standards for our graduates, which is reflected in our plan for the Every Student Succeeds Act, and evidenced in the graduation rate increase. That it’s our seventh-consecutive year for an increase demonstrates that our plans, our partnerships, are working.”

The individual who died in Tuesday’s school bus accident on South Main Street in Buffalo has been identified as 20 year-old Nicholas Thompson.
Thompson, a graduate of Buffalo High School in 2020 was struck by a Johnson County School bus early Tuesday morning and was transported to the Johnson County Healthcare Center where he later died of his injuries.
No one on the bus was injured in the accident and the Johnson County School District provided counseling services to any student requiring assistance.
According to the Buffalo Police Department, an investigation into the accident is underway.
A pedestrian was hit and killed Tuesday morning by a school bus belonging to Johnson County School District #1.
According to Buffalo Police Chief Jason Carder, at about 7:50 Tuesday morning, officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian on South Main Street.
On the Buffalo Police Department’s Facebook page, “the preliminary investigation shows the accident occurred when an adult male, of Buffalo, attempted to access his vehicle parked on South Main Street when he was struck by a passing Johnson County School Bus.
The victim sustained critical injuries and was transported to the Johnson County Healthcare Center for treatment, but later died.
BUFFALO A pedestrian was struck by a school bus in Buffalo on Tuesday morning, according to Johnson County School District No. 1 Superintendent Jim Wagner.
The pedestrian was crossing Main Street when they were hit by a bus heading to the high school, Wagner said on the JCSD No. 1 Facebook page.

The Buffalo Bulletin reports that the adult pedestrian died as a result of the collision. Wagner said that the individual had been transported to the hospital.
“No students on the bus were injured in the incident, however the individual that was struck sustained injuries and was transported by ambulance to the hospital,” Wagner said. “Parents of the students on the bus were notified and counselors are on standby for any student that requires assistance.”
