Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff and San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg blasted a move by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott Tuesday to lift the state’s coronavirus restrictions, calling it hasty and dangerous.
Both implored local residents to keep wearing masks.
Abbott announced plans Tuesday afternoon to lift Texas’ mask mandate and drop the state’s occupancy limits for restaurants, bars, sporting events, retailers and wherever people gather. The governor cited falling hospitalizations from COVID-19 as well as an increase in the number of people receiving doses of the coronavirus vaccine.
