Des Moines Public Schools students will be online at least through winter break after the Iowa Department of Education approved the district s online learning waiver Friday.
The district s school board voted to apply for the waiver Tuesday. Board members also voted 4-2 to allow Superintendent Thomas Ahart to apply for enough remote learning waivers from the state to keep some students online for the rest of the semester if community metrics surpass the board s threshold for filing a waiver. Board members Teree Caldwell-Johnson and Kelli Soyer voted against the motion.
