Federal authorities arrested a 22-year-old man on Wednesday and are accusing him of fatally shooting a man earlier this month, according to the U.S. Marshals.
Authorities said they believe Manuel Vilchis killed another man during the early hours of March 18, following a verbal altercation at a residence near the intersection of Georgian Drive and Oertli Lane in North Austin.
Following a police investigation, Vilchis was arrested Wednesday afternoon without incident in East Austin, authorities said.
Vilchis was taken to the Austin Police Department, and he is facing a first degree murder charge in connection to the March 18 shooting, and his bail is set at $500,000, according to authorities.

Food distribution event on Saturday
Austin Community College will partner with the Central Texas Food Bank to distribute free food in a drive-thru event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at ACC’s Hays County campus, 1200 Kohlers Crossing.
The distribution is for those who are facing increased food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Town halls set on city budget
The Austin Health and Environment and Economic Opportunity, Culture & Affordability commissions will take budget recommendations at upcoming virtual town halls.
The Health and Environment Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, and the Economic Opportunity, Culture & Affordability Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 17.
