Technical Tidbits 2/11: Tech falls to UVA in otherwise close Game

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets men’s basketball team put up another good fight against a ninth ranked University of Virginia Cavaliers team. And, yet again, the Yellow Jackets came up short in what for the most part was a close game that could have easily gone either way. The final score was 57-49. The Cavaliers pulled away in the final minutes of the game despite a valiant effort by the Yellow Jackets. Only two Yellow Jackets scored in double figures Jordan Usher with 12 points and Jose Alvarado who had 18 points. Michael Devoe struggled offensively for Tech as defense played a key factor in the game for both teams. The Yellow Jackets forced 10 turnovers and their defense limited their opponent to only two players scoring in double figures as well. THE FLATS – Facing a stretch of four games in a seven-day period, Georgia Tech looks to even the regular season series against Virginia when it entertains the No. 9/9 Cavaliers for a 7 p.m. contest Wednesday night at McCamish Pavilion.
The Yellow Jackets (9-6, 5-4 ACC), who are 3-3 since returning from its 17-day pause, are in sixth place in the ACC standings and have a NCAA NET ranking of No. 62. Tech is coming off an 82-80 come-from-behind win over Notre Dame Saturday night, which kept Tech undefeated at home in ACC play this season. Tech led for much of its first meeting against Virginia on Jan. 23, but the Cavaliers worked back from an 11-point deficit to win 64-62.

THE FLATS –No. 17 Georgia Tech volleyball announced its 10-match schedule for the 2021 spring season on Monday. The schedule consists entirely of Atlantic Coast Conference matchups, including four home contests in O’Keefe Gymnasium. The spring portion of the Yellow Jackets’ 2020-21 slate opens on March 7 against Virginia in Pittsburgh, Pa.
The ACC’s spring schedule will consist of five three-team pods competing at one site each weekend. Georgia Tech hosts pods on two of the five weekends of the season – March 12-14 (vs. Boston College at 6 p.m. and North Carolina at 1 p.m. in week two) and April 1-3 (vs. No. 15 Notre Dame at 6 p.m. and Duke at 2 p.m. to close the regular season).
