Three adults have been charged with child cruelty after footage of a 12-year-old Atlanta boy being taunted and assaulted before having the word “gay” shaved into the side of his head with hair clippers went viral.
A clip of the disturbing incident was later posted to Instagram Live and widely shared, leading to a criminal investigation and an outpouring of shock among the Black community in Atlanta.
On the video, a man can be seen grabbing the child by his T-shirt while questioning him about his sexuality on the porch of a home.

Police in Atlanta arrested three suspects for allegedly assaulting a 12-year-old and shaving the word “gay” into his hair in an attack that was posted on social media.
Authorities arrested Jordan Jarrode Richards-Nwankwo, 18; Lorkeyla Jamia Spencer, 19, and Brittney Monique Mills, 35. Richards-Nwankwo, who was charged with cruelty to children and battery, was released after posting a $50,000 bond on Sunday. The other two suspects remain in custody at the Fulton County Jail, according to NBC News.

Jordan Jarrode Richards-Nwankwo, 18, Lorkeyla Jamia Spencer, 19, and Brittney Monique Mills, 35, were charged with cruelty to children, with Richards-Nwankwo facing an additional battery charge. We’re very pleased with these arrests, but we are pleased with feedback that we got from members of the community assisting in this and how quickly they were able to jump on it, said Sgt. John Chafee, Atlanta Police Department.
An investigation was launched in June after Atlanta police were alerted about a post depicting maltreatment of a juvenile. The child was soon located and placed into protective custody with the Georgia Division of Family & Children Services.
