Test XIs we should have had: 1978-79 A Set the default text size A Set large text size

This is the second in my series of hardcore deep dives into hypothetical XIs Australia should have played in years gone by.
This time I’m turning my attention to the 1978-79 Ashes, when Australia lost to England 5-1, and resulted in the establishment raising the white flag to World Series Cricket.
This result did not seem likely the previous summer, when Kerry Packer and company struggled and the official Australian XI defeated India 3-2 in a thrilling series. We lost in the West Indies, it is true, but the team did okay – if not for a riot, the end result would have been 3-2 rather than 3-1, which isn’t bad.

Marian Ruth Hicks Garner, 86, of Cleveland, went peacefully to meet her Lord and Savior early on Friday morning, July 16, 2021, while in the loving care of her husband Eugene.
Marian accepted her Lord’s highest call, and now has a new home where she is rejoicing her arrival with old friends and family she has not seen in a very long time.
Marian was born in Burdette, Arkansas, to Verna Tate Hicks and John Alvin Hicks on Sept. 29, 1934. She was the third of five children. During her childhood, her father and mother farmed and were active in the local community ministry with the Burdette Church of God. As a small child, she began her working life by picking cotton in her dad’s fields with her siblings.

Wellington Zinefest organiser Milly Hampton will feature in a history of the event that will be screened at the Hamilton Zinefest on Saturday.
Dozens of poets, comic creators, fringe politicos, illustrators, writers and artists will bring their self-made wares to the Meteor Theatre on Saturday for the seventh Hamilton Zinefest. It marks a long-awaited return for the event, which had to be cancelled last year due to the Covid-19 lockdown. Zinefests are held in cities around New Zealand and while such events are a relatively recent phenomena, zines themselves are not. A zine (pronounced “zeen”) is any labour-of-love act of short-run publishing, so any amateur poetry journal, fringe political pamphlet, or photocopied comic book qualifies as an example of zine-making. The word zine is a shortening of fanzine, a term invented in the 1940s to describe the amateur science fiction fan magazines that began appearing at that time.
