Alabama News Network has been following the efforts to save Judson College in Marion. The Christian college was founded in 1838 and is the fifth-oldest women’s college in the country. It’s also home to the Alabama Women’s Hall of Fame.
The Board of Trustees is now launching a campaign to raise $5 million by April 2.
“The board was unanimous in seeking to identify donors to support the college in the coming academic year,” Judson College President W. Mark Tew said. “While this is a monumental challenge, I would like to remind all of you that we serve a great God. Prudent financial responsibility dictates that we have firm commitments from our donors before we can proceed into the next academic year,” he said.

Judson College in Marion is open for business this semester after alarms were raised last semester that the school was in danger of closing.
Students, faculty and staff at Judson College are now back on campus.
Although the prospect of the school not reopening for the spring semester was a real possibility just a few weeks ago.
“We’re very happy that the spring semester has arrived and that students are back on campus,” said President W. Mark Tew.
“We are excited about the opportunity to continue their education in the majors that they’ve selected.”

Sandra Doran was emboldened by the power of an education as a middle schooler by watching her mother complete her college coursework for Nazareth College previously an all-women’s school while seated at the kitchen table.
Doran’s now the president of Bay Path University, an all-women college in Longmeadow, Massachusetts, and remains resolute on her mission to educate women at different stages in life. From the West Alabama Newsroom– Judson College in Marion has reached it’s year end fund raising goal. However, the long-term future of the private Baptist College remains uncertain. “We have now surpassed our first goal of a half million dollars in December. And we’re well along the way towards the total goal, including that half million, of $1.5 million.” Judson.

Judson College in Marion is facing an uncertain financial future. It is the fifth-oldest women’s college in the country and is home to the Alabama Women’s Hall of Fame. It was founded in 1838.
Judson President W. Mark Tew says money is needed to make sure the private Baptist college can reopen in January following the Christmas holiday.
Tew has sent a letter to friends of the college, acknowledging financial difficulties due to declining enrollment, the recession of 2008 and this year’s COVID-19 pandemic.
“Should the college be unable to secure sufficient resources by December 31, we are making plans to assist our students with teach-out and transfer options,” Tew said in the letter.
