Woman indicted for smuggling firearms, ammunition and cash into Mexico

A federal grand jury in Laredo has indicted a woman for allegedly smuggling cash and firearms into Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said on Tuesday.
Lizzette B. Jaimes was charged with smuggling defense articles and approximately $100,000. If convicted, Jaimes faces up to 10 years in prison and a possible $250,000 maximum fine.
Homeland Security Investigations and U.S. Customs and Border Protection conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Makens is prosecuting the case.
The case unfolded on Jan. 18, when a Toyota Tundra arrived at the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge.

A man said he was tasked with delivering cocaine at a local Walmart in Laredo, according to an arrest affidavit filed on Thursday.
On Tuesday, Ramiro Alvarado Jr. arrived at the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge in a 2008 Jeep Cherokee. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers referred Alvarado to secondary inspection.
An X-ray of the vehicle revealed anomalies in the rear quarter panels. CBP officers said they discovered brick-shaped objects wrapped in duct tape in the rear quarter panels.

A man landed behind bars after he was found in possession of fraudulent records, according to an arrest affidavit filed on Monday.
Eusebio Guadalupe Perez-Mendoza, of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, was about to exit the country via the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge when U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers selected him for secondary inspection.
Perez-Mendoza, 27, stated to CBP officers that he was traveling from Indiana to Mexico to visit family. He additionally claimed that he was a U.S. citizen but added that he did not have any form of identification other than a Mexican voter s card.
