Happy New Year
On behalf of the board of directors and the entire staff at the council on aging I want to wish you all a happy and better New Year. I think everyone of us is on the same page that we are truly glad 2020 is over.
Hopefully sometime in the very near future we will have word on getting the vaccine. I’m sure our board of health will keep us informed.

The Millbury-Sutton Chronicle
MILLBURY Dec. 8 and 9, both Millbury s and Sutton s senior centers received dozens of brand new winter jackets, warm socks and protective masks courtesy of Sheriff Lew Evangelidis and a non-profit organization.
Worcester County Sheriff Lew Evangelidis along with the sheriff s office annual winter coat drive co-sponsor, the Central Massachusetts Agency on Aging (CMAA), donated and delivered hundreds of brand new winter jackets, warm socks and protective masks to help elderly residents throughout Worcester County stay warm this winter season. Especially during the holiday season, it is vitally important to remember those who may be struggling during this challenging time, said Evangelidis. Instead of cancelling our annual winter coat drive due to the constraints and concerns of COVID, our department doubled down on our commitment to help those in need during the cold winter months. Special event
National Honor Society students from Millbury High School are making lasagna as a special treat for elderly who would like one. The pick-up date is Monday, Dec. 14, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., but you must call in advance to request one by Friday, Dec. 11. They are making 45 small pans of lasagna which is good for two people and can be frozen for later use. This a wonderful program for young adults in our community to give a gift of caring.
This event is grab-and-go outside the senior center. The students will be on hand to just put it in your car. There will be no contact and masks must be worn. The food is being prepared at the high school with the supervision of a teacher who is ServSafe cerified (through the food and beverage safety training and certificate program administered by the U.S. National Restaurant Association). I am told the students are taking a cooking lesson from a wonderful Italian mother.

Sheriff s donations
The sheriff came to town. Sheriff Lew Evangelidis visited the senior center this past week with gifts for those in need in Millbury. He brought new winter coats and gift bags. The event was co-sponsored by Central Mass. Agency on Aging. We love when he visits us. It’s great to see his happy face and warm smile of the joy of giving. All through the year we received wonderful food products from the community garden located at the jail.
A special thank you to him and all those who accompanied him on his visit. Those who received these gifts were truly grateful.
