PHOTO COURTESY TTOC. - TT Olympic Committee (TTOC) president Brian Lewis completed the TT International Marathon (TTIM) 26.2 mile distance in six hours, 37 minutes and seven seconds on Sunday. The 52-year old journeyed from St Mary’s Junction in Freeport, at 2 am, and arrived at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain, just before 9 am. Owing to the covid19 pandemic, this year’s 39th edition did not feature its usual scores of participants on a set date.

However, the TTOC’s celebrations will be done differently due to the ongoing covid19 pandemic. During a recent interview, Lewis said, “Because of covid and the challenging circumstances, our 75th celebrations would look entirely different to how it would have looked were it not for covid. “The Marathon is kicking off the covid-restricted celebrations,” added Lewis. “The Marathon this year is a virtual (one), as organised by the TT International Marathon Committee chaired by Diane Henderson. I have to give credit to her leadership, for deciding that, notwithstanding the challenges, they wanted to still have an event for (its) 39th year, and you have to give them credit for that.”

After all of the national and international tournaments canceled or postponed due to the global coronavirus pandemic, December closes with the encouraging signs left by United States Weightlifting and the Pan American Weightlifting Federation in organizing online contests that, like everything celebrated for the first time, remain fixed in the sports memory.
