Barrow Youth Theatre return to the Forum for fine team 1992 performance

‘Want a Mint? …Extra Strong’ was the title of Barrow Youth Theatre’s production at Forum 28 in February 1992. The Mail’s reviewer said the group had put together a fine team performance and highlighted Phillip Gregg and Dom Greaves for showing ‘an excellent flair for comedy’. They included sessions on rhythmic work and lyrics, masks, improvisation and ways to approach creating a character from scratch.

Budding actors took their first steps towards stage stardom at Barrow Youth Theatre

Fifteen Furness teenagers learned the art of acting at a workshop run by Barrow Youth Theatre in April 1993. The would-be actors were put through their paces at Forum 28 in Barrow by director Rachel Ashton and co-ordinator Julie Hammerton. They started off with games designed to give the children confidence and get them used to performing in front of people – as well as teaching them to work together. Then in its third year, the beginners’ workshop was open to anyone who wanted to go along and give acting a try. And if they enjoyed it, they could go on to join the youth theatre.

Springfield native, Pfizer scientist Bryan Clay to address foundation

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is being held as a virtual event. The live program begins at 7 p.m. Clay was a qualifier for the 1995 IHSA state track meet in the 400-meter dash and a top sprinter at DePaul University where he set Conference USA indoor and outdoor school records in the 4x400m relay. One of the vaccines is for prostate cancer and a second is currently being tested in non-small cell lung cancer and triple negative breast cancer. Clay s mother, Nell Clay, who is president of the board of directors of the Springfield and Central Illinois African American History Museum, is a breast cancer survivor.
