Ms Gilbert said Mad Mountain Bike Club riders were “very excited” to practise on the new facility and prepare for competitions. “Finch Hatton is planned as the trail hub with carparking, shuttle services, change rooms, an event space and possibly a cafe, in future stages,” she stated.

Committee to give young people a voice on Mackay issues

Mackay MP Julieanne Gilbert MP has set up a new Youth Advisory Committee and is inviting young people aged 16 to 25 years to apply to be involved. Mrs Gilbert said the committee would help grow the confidence, skills and leadership abilities of members and improve their knowledge of government and policymaking processes. This is an exciting opportunity for young people to contribute to local and state policymaking on issues important to them, and learn more about how government can help effect change, she said.

Mackay MP shares her stance on voluntary assisted dying

Mackay MP Julieanne Gilbert has stated her support for voluntary assisted dying legislation as she prepares to launch a survey to gauge the community s stance on the contentious issue. Mrs Gilbert said she believed, on a personal level, there was a need for VAD legislation to give people with terminal illness a choice over whether to end their lives. After talking to young people who are looking at a really horrific end to their life, I do believe there needs to be that choice, she said. Queensland MPs are set to vote on euthanasia legislation this year, after Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk made it a key election pledge.
