UPDATE (WKOW) At least 42 animals have now been found in the hoarding home in Jefferson.
The Humane Society of Jefferson County rescued 41 cats and one dog from the home. The Humane Society is now taking care of the animals.
Officials say they believe the two-year-old dog had never been out of the home s basement.
They hope the dog and the cats will be up for adoption in the next few weeks.
The home has been condemned. Police are investigating.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. The Jefferson County Health Department canceled a COVID-19 vaccine event scheduled for Tuesday due to the severe weather.
An alert from the health department said anyone with an appointment for the event will have their appointment rescheduled for the same time next Tuesday, Feb. 23.
If you had an appointment and will not be able to make it to an appointment for the same time the next week, you are asked to send an email to director@jeffcohealth.org to set up a new appointment.

BOULDER â When Gov. Greg Gianforte lifted Montanaâs statewide mask mandate Friday, it created a situation that can be very different from county to county.
Gianforteâs directive allowed local authorities to implement their own mask mandates. Lewis and Clark County is among those that have already done so, while Jefferson County â immediately to the south â has not. That means it is up to Jefferson County businesses to make their own decisions about how to move forward.
Fully vaccinated people don’t need to quarantine after COVID-19 exposure. That’s the new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control. But one of Jefferson County’s top doctors said that guidance doesn’t mean fully vaccinated people should stop taking precautions.
