FORESTDALE An 83-year-old man involved in a head-on collision in April has died, according to Jefferson County Coroner Bill Yates.
George M. Pody, of Birmingham, died 24 days after the crash near Forestdale.
Coroner Bill Yates said Pody was taken to UAB Hospital on April 15, after the crash on Forestdale Boulevard, between Haven Drive and Lanewood Drive. Yates said a Chevrolet Silverado crossed over the centerline, striking the Volkswagen Atlas that Pody was driving.
Pody was transported to UAB Hospital where he died on Sunday, May 9, 2021.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause and circumstances surrounding the crash.

But one rookie Irondale officer is showing that there are great men and women protecting citizens every day.
Officer Davis Adair was the first officer to arrive on the scene of a shooting in the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 28, 2021. When he arrived just before 4 a.m., he found Dewarren Lovell Gibson, 21, suffering from a single gunshot wound in the chest area. The victim was in the breezeway at an apartment complex located at 4400 Hunter Ridge Way. The Birmingham native, Gibson, was fighting for his life with each breath.

BESSEMER A man found dead inside a Bessemer hotel had blunt force trauma, according to Jefferson County Coroner Bill Yates.
Sean P. Coker, 46, of Augusta, Georgia, was found inside his room at the Quality Inn, off Academy Lane, on Saturday, April 17, 2021. Hotel staff found him around 10:30 a.m. It is unclear how long Coker was dead inside the room before he was discovered.
The Bessemer Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

Cory Lamont Peterson, 35, was shot during a reported assault at the Red Roof Inn, according to Jefferson County Coroner Bill Yates. The shooting happened just after midnight.
Peterson was taken to UAB Medical West Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:38 a.m.
