Alabama tornado kills 1, critically injures others: ‘Like a bomb went off’ (photos)

A reported tornado ripped through Fultondale, Alabama, on Monday night, killing one person, critically injuring several others and leaving a path of destruction in its wake.
Fultondale Mayor Larry Holcomb said the storm - which hit the northern Jefferson County city about 10:30 p.m. - cut a quarter mile wide swath after touching down near Interstate 65.
It moved northeast toward Fultondale High School where there is substantial damage. Multiple businesses - such as Hurst Towing and the Hampton Inn were destroyed, as well as most everything in between.

BEAUMONT, Texas A woman from Vidor was sentenced to federal prison for drug trafficking charges Friday.
Catherine Ardis , 62, pleaded guilty Sept. 10, 2020 to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance, hydromorphone, and was sentenced to 180 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone on Jan. 22, Acting U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei said in a news release.
Jefferson County sheriff s deputy sentenced in burglary
Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul made the announcement on Tuesday, Jan. 26.
The sentence was ordered on each of the three counts Gericke pleaded guilty to, all running concurrently.
“The crimes committed in this case were violations of the public trust,” said AG Kaul. “Thank you to those at Wisconsin DOJ and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office who secured justice for the victims of these crimes and the residents of Jefferson County.”
CBS 58 reported in 2019 that Gericke had been employed by the sheriff s office since February 2016, and was assigned to the jail division. She was fired after being charged with felony burglary in December 2019.

GOLDEN, Colo. â A Jefferson County man, who thought he was selling his car for a fair price, ended up getting swindled.
Anthony Anderson said he wanted to sell his 2002 BMW 325i wagon to keep it from getting damaged on the rough mountain driveway of the home where he lives in Coal Creek Canyon.

The mood inside Buc-ee’s is joyful and enthusiastic employees say they have been patiently waiting to open. Every wall is lined with something different. Candy, jerky, and home decor are available inside the store. There are also pet products and baby items for sale.
General Manager Michael Bui said the store is ready to serve the city of Leeds and the surrounding areas.
“We’re excited,” said Bui. “We’re happy to be a part of the community of Leeds, Birmingham, north Alabama. Leeds has been fantastic to us so we’re ready to open our doors and show northern Alabama what we have.”
