Alabama tornado kills 1, critically injures others: ‘Like a bomb went off’ (photos) Updated Jan 26, 2021; A reported tornado ripped through Fultondale, Alabama, on Monday night, killing one person, critically injuring several others and leaving a path of destruction in its wake. Fultondale Mayor Larry Holcomb said the storm - which hit the northern Jefferson County city about 10:30 p.m. - cut a quarter mile wide swath after touching down near Interstate 65. It moved northeast toward Fultondale High School where there is substantial damage. Multiple businesses - such as Hurst Towing and the Hampton Inn were destroyed, as well as most everything in between.

The mood inside Buc-ee’s is joyful and enthusiastic employees say they have been patiently waiting to open. Every wall is lined with something different. Candy, jerky, and home decor are available inside the store. There are also pet products and baby items for sale. General Manager Michael Bui said the store is ready to serve the city of Leeds and the surrounding areas. “We’re excited,” said Bui. “We’re happy to be a part of the community of Leeds, Birmingham, north Alabama. Leeds has been fantastic to us so we’re ready to open our doors and show northern Alabama what we have.”
