JEFFERSON CITY - Mask requirements for Jefferson City School District will be lifted for the last two weeks of summer school. The change will be effective starting on Monday, June 21 and will continue through the end of summer school on Thursday, July 1.Â
The school district sent out the news to staff and families on Thursday in an email saying that the Jefferson City School District is incredibly thankful to our staff, students, and parents for your efforts to support our COVID-19 plan. Â
The email outlined that masks will not be required for staff members or students in school buildings or on buses, however they are still encouraging masks for individuals who are not vaccinated yet.Â
Columbia-based organizations like MU, CPS and Columbia College will no longer require masks. Follow along with KOMU 8 News for what else you need to know today.
MU will recommend masks be worn based on vaccination status and situation starting June 1. Columbia Public Schools will not require masks in buildings or on buses for its summer classes starting on June 14. Â

Fulton School District:Â Currently requires masks to be worn inside its facilities. The district will come out with an announcement Friday about its COVID-19 guidelines, according to director of public relations Karen Snethen.Â
Jefferson City School District: Mask wearing for students and teachers will be required for summer classes if social distancing isn t possible.
 The district announced May 14 that masks would not be required for outdoor recess.Â
Charges filed against man accused of threatening Jefferson City school bus driver
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Cole County Prosecutor s Office filed charges against a man accused of threatening a school bus driver in Jefferson City on Tuesday morning.
Cody R. Vaughan, 33, is charged with felony counts of first-degree terrorist threat and first-degree harassment. He s also charged with one misdemeanor count of peace disturbance.
Police said officers responded just after 8:10 a.m. Tuesday to an area near Lafayette Street and E. High Street.
Police said a bus driver with First Student told officers Vaughn confronted her at a bus stop after she returned to pick up his children that she had missed earlier.
