Appeals court upholds ruling that Jefferson City School District rehire administrator ABC 17 News JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ) An appeals court has upheld a lower court decision ordering the Jefferson City School District to reinstate a fired information technology administrator. Missouri s Western District Court of Appeals issued its opinion upholding the ruling by Cole County Circuit Judge Jon Beetem on Tuesday. Beetem in March ordered JC Schools to rehire Tammy Ferry, an instructional technology coordinator fired in July 2019 after a school board hearing. Ferry was fired after the district accused her of putting personal student information at risk by transferring files to her computer.

EDITORIAL: Empathy, and increased pay, for our educators

While we’ve rightfully praised our health care workers during the pandemic, we’ve sometimes taken for granted another segment of frontline workers: teachers. They, too, are risking the health of themselves and their families to accomplish a task we as a society haven’t always valued enough: educating our children. This year, they’ve done it amid routine hand-washing, increased cleaning, temperature checks, masks and trying to social distance children, which is likely akin to herding cats. We need to show appreciation for our teachers because it is right but also for a practical matter: We need to keep them.
