While weâve rightfully praised our health care workers during the pandemic, weâve sometimes taken for granted another segment of frontline workers: teachers.
They, too, are risking the health of themselves and their families to accomplish a task we as a society havenât always valued enough: educating our children. This year, theyâve done it amid routine hand-washing, increased cleaning, temperature checks, masks and trying to social distance children, which is likely akin to herding cats.
We need to show appreciation for our teachers because it is right but also for a practical matter: We need to keep them.

JEFFERSON CITY - The JC Schools Foundation will give every staff member in the Jefferson City School District a $100 gift card to recognize their hard work throughout the pandemic.
According to a news release on Monday, staff will receive the gift cards the week of Jan. 4, right after the district s winter break.
âWe recognize that this year is extraordinary and remarkably challenging, JC Schools Foundation Executive Director Ashley Varner said. District staff have been called to go above and beyond in their roles to serve our students.â
The JC Schools Foundation supports learning opportunities for staff and students through ways such as events and grants.
