St. Joseph County police are investigating after a 2-year-old suffered an accidental gunshot wound.Â
Around 10:15 a.m. Monday, officers were called to the Emerald Pointe Apartments on Generations Drive near Douglas Road in South Bend for reports that a child accidentally shot themselves.
According to a county police spokesman, officers believe the child was shot in the hand.Â
The child s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening and they were taken to the hospital. St. Joseph County detectives continue to investigate the incident.
2-year-old injured in shooting
The shooting was reported at 10:18 a.m.
The initial reports indicate it was a self-inflicted gunshot through the hand.
The boy suffered non-life threatening injuries in the shooting.
A person who was in the apartment at the time of the shooting fled, but police said there is no threat to the public.
