March 17, 2021 UPDATE: WHMI has learned that a misdemeanor criminal charge has been filed against Genoa Twp. Polly Skolarus. She’ll be arraigned on May 7th on a single charge of Election Law - Failure to Perform Duty. The charge was authorized by the Livingston County Prosecutor’s Office following an investigation by Michigan State Police. Tune to WHMI on Thursday for additional details. March 10, 2021 By Jessica Mathews / News@whmi.com Despite objections from dozens of residents, plans for a proposed religious chapel and sanctuary space in Genoa Township are moving forward. The township s Planning Commission met virtually Monday night and held a second public hearing on plans from Missouri-based Catholic Healthcare International for a 6,090-square-foot church with associated drives and parking on a site totaling approximately 40 acres at 3280 Chilson Road, south of Crooked Lake Road. A driveway with a loop road and two parking lots are also included. An application states the only building being proposed is being placed significantly off of Chilson Road and the driveway would meander around trees to preserve the site’s natural beauty and thus maintain the appearance from Chilson Road. WHMI 93 5 Local News : COVID Variant Detected In Livingston County

March 8, 2021 A variant of the COVID-19 virus has been detected in Livingston County. The Livingston County Health Department reports that it has identified the first case of the COVID-19 variant B117. According to a release, while public exposures are not normally a concern, they have issued an alert in this instance because the B117 variant is more easily transmitted and could lead to more cases, hospitalizations, and deaths. As a precaution, the Health Department recommends COVID-19 testing for anyone who attended the following locations: • Michigan Institute of Athletics Gym on Euler Road in Genoa Township from February 13th to present (including friends and family members who spent time with individuals having visited this location).
