An initiative designed to reduce the amount of marine litter in the sea was launched at a Co Down harbour yesterday.
Fishing for Litter, which is overseen by the Northern Ireland Fishery Harbour Authority, sees participating vessels given hard-wearing bags to collect marine litter that is caught in their nets during their normal fishing activities.
Filled bags are then deposited in participating harbours on the quayside and then moved by harbour staff to a dedicated skip for recycling or disposal.
