I received two separate, but similar letters about the roundabout on Pecos Street at I-70.
Cathy from Denver writes, âWhat s driving you crazy? The roundabout at Pecos/48th/I-70 is dangerous! The cars getting on near 48th do not yield, which makes it very difficult for cars coming off I-70 to get in the roundabout. I see a traffic light there in the future.â
Jeremy from Denver writes, âWhat s driving you crazy? The roundabouts at I70 & Pecos. Every single time I drive west on W. 48th Avenue, people in the left lane for I-70 east will suddenly cut over to the right from inside the roundabout for the I-70 west ramp instead. People always seem to get confused at this roundabout since some parts are one lane and other parts of it are three lanes.â

New traffic changes begin next week as the Colorado Department of Transportation kicks off its Mile High Shift project, which will move both directions of Interstate 70 between Brighton Boulevard and Colorado Boulevard off of the viaduct and lower it under a cover park.

In some places, the water is high enough to reach the floorboards of low cars. It s not clear if any homes in the area have flooded basements or first levels.

This traffic change, called the Mile High Shift project, will allow crews to demolish the structurally deficient viaduct, which was built 57 years ago. All current lanes of I-70 will move to the future westbound lanes of the lowered section as early as late this month. Both directions of traffic will stay in the westbound lanes for about 18 months, when the eastbound lanes of I-70 are expected to be completed, CDOT said.

The westbound lanes of Interstate 70 in northwest Denver closed Friday morning for a fatal crash involving a vehicle and motorcycle.
The motorcyclist died in the crash, according to the Denver Police Department. The interstate reopened at 8:15 a.m.
Earlier, officials closed the westbound lanes between Lowell Boulevard (exit 271B) and Sheridan Boulevard (exit 271A).
Jay Casillas with the Denver Police Department said the preliminary investigation showed that a man on the motorcycle was speeding and lost control on a curve in the area. He hit a center barrier and was thrown from the motorcycle, Casillas said. The motorcycle continued moving and hit a vehicle.
