Millville Awarded Federal Grant Funds for Millyard Riverfront Walk The South Jersey Transportation Planning Organization (SJTPO) in partnership with the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) is pleased to announce the award of a $900,000 federal grant under the Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside (TA Set-Aside) Program. The federal grant awarded to Millville will fund the Millyard Riverfront Walk with the intention of improving and expanding pedestrian and bicycle trails in Cumberland County. The TA Set-Aside Program is a competitive program funded through the Federal Highway Administration’s Federal Aid Program and is administered by NJDOT in partnership with New Jersey’s three Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) – SJTPO, the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC), and the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA). NJT Begins Perth Amboy Station Renovation By Passenger Train Journal Staff The NJ Transit Board of Directors awarded the contract to renovate the station at Perth Amboy, New Jersey on May 12. Improvements will include making the station fully accessible with elevators, ramps and high-level platforms in addition to other upgrades throughout the historic facility. “Making the rail system accessible to everyone is an important priority,” said New Jersey Department of Transportation commissioner and board chair Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti. “This is just one of the many projects underway to improve the customer experience as we continue to modernize and upgrade the transportation systems in New Jersey.” 

South Amboy NJ waterfront development project gets financial boost

The funding will allow the city to add to what has already been constructed and tie the rail station and ferry together, Business Administrator Glenn Skarzynski said.  Once additional funding is in place, the city plans to construct one final section of the waterfront walkway providing over 1 1/2 miles of interconnected pedestrian/cyclist links serving its transit facilities, the downtown, and the bayfront area. Upon completion, the project will also add to the city’s existing waterfront walkway allowing more access to the shores of the Raritan Bay.  In addition to South Amboy, a $630,000 grant was awarded to Rahway for East Cherry Street Streetscape Improvements.

Jersey City officials break ground on $200k upgrades at Fairmount Triangle Park By Daniel Ulloa/Hudson County View The improvement project eliminates two street segments that bisect existing green spaces at the intersection of Fairmount and Summit Avenues to create and expand an uninterrupted public park, expected to be completed this summer. “The administration has been working with my office making sure we bring residents from downtown to the Greenville section,” Ward F Councilman Jermaine Robinson said this morning. Robinson noted he first ran for the seat as an independent against Fulop before being appointed to the council with his support.
