Aristide Economopoulos - Some of my favorite 2020 photographs
Updated Dec 31, 2020;
Everyone has faced personal challenges in 2020, and I’m no exception. Being at high risk for Covid-19 forced me to take time off, then to alter my style of photography when I returned. I had to take photos from a farther distance than I normally would - I like to get close to my subjects to offer more intimate images. Included in this professional gallery are some photos I took on my own time because I wanted to continue being creative while being safe. I’m proud of the photographs I took this year and look forward to telling more stories in 2021!

SACRAMENTO, Calif Holiday celebrations are looking a little different this year, but that doesn t mean the observance is any less meaningful.
Kwanzaa is a communal experience. It was created to reaffirm and restore [Black people s] rootedness in African culture, according to the Official Kwanzaa Website.

There’s never been a Kwanzaa quite like this one.
Like most holidays in 2020, Kwanzaa’s seven-day celebration will look markedly different than in years past due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Starting Dec. 26, those who observe the seven-day cultural holiday will honor the seven principles of African culture, starting with Umoja (Unity), followed by Kujichagulia (Self-Determination), Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility), Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics), Nia (Purpose), Kuumba (Creativity), and Imani (Faith).
“More people are starting to focus on who they are, and what they want their families to experience empowering cultural stories that get our brains from up under the foot of oppression,” Janine Bell, the president and artistic director of Elegba Folklore Society in Richmond, Va., told
