(Special to The Commercial) The Arkansas Society United States Daughters of 1812 held its first virtual state council and elected new state officers to serve for the next three years. New officers elected were President Jerrie Townsend, Vice President Katherine Kate Schindler, Chaplain Patricia McLemore, Secretary Judith Robbins, Treasurer Charline Manning, Registrar Arvetta Swift, and Historian Frances Frankie Ochsner. The officers are members of three of the four chapters in the state, according to a news release.

Man charged with setting vehicle fire that triggered explosion in Franklin County

Updated: 12:38 PM EST Jan 15, 2021 Police in Franklin County say they arrested a man accused of setting fire to a vehicle, which triggered an explosion.Jerry Townsend is charged with arson, reckless endangerment, causing or risking a catastrophe and terroristic threats.Chambersburg police said the fire happened around 10:45 p.m. on West Queen Street. An oxygen tank inside the vehicle exploded, police said.Police said no one was hurt. A building next to the vehicle was damaged, police said.According to police, Townsend set the fire because of a domestic issue between him and a woman. CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. Police in Franklin County say they arrested a man accused of setting fire to a vehicle, which triggered an explosion.

Chambersburg man charged after vehicle explosion

No one was injured in the fire or the explosion, police said. Firefighters put out the flames.  An investigation identified Townsend, 37, as the person who allegedly set the fire, and he was taken into custody around 5:30 a.m. on Friday, police said.  The Chambersburg Police Department wants to assure the community that this was an isolated incident stemming from a domestic issue between Townsend and a female.  The Chambersburg community remains safe, police said.  According to Bietsch, the vehicle was a 1991 Ford Ranger pickup truck owned by a person known to Townsend. The individual is not the woman involved in the domestic issue with Townsend, but they were connected to it, Bietsch added.
