Central Park RV campground plans, specs on the table soon
Crookston Times
Crookston City Administrator Amy Finch informed the Park Board this week that she hopes to see a resolution on the City Council’s agenda as early as Monday to consider plans and specifications for the upcoming campground in Central Park. Finch said she anticipates there will not be “a whole lot of room” for community input on the project based on the grant budget through the funds they received from the Greater Minnesota Parks & Trails Commission.
She explained that the city hasn’t budgeted extra dollars for the project and will come back to the board with more information once she has it.

Fisher Avenue’s construction progress will be broadcast live on camera after the Polk County Board of Commissioners approved the technology rental during this week’s meeting. County Engineer Rich Sanders thought the public might be interested in watching the progress being as there are approximately 5,000 cars that travel on that road per day and the “earth cam” they’ll be using will have a viewing area of 360 degrees plus emergency services could utilize the camera as well.
The rental will cost $18,719.16, and, while District 3 Commissioner Gary Willhite noted it was a lot of money, Sanders reassured the commissioners that the rental company will have the sole responsibility for the camera plus the cost to rent it will come from the project’s budget not local property tax money.
Crookston Splash Park will have 2 canopies
Crookston Times
The Crookston Splash Park will see new enhancements in the summer of 2021 with a recent purchase of two 10x10 canopies that will be installed over two benches surrounding the water feature.
The canopies were purchased with funds through the Crookston Area Community Fund, the local fund of the Northwest Minnesota Foundation.
“The fund has been active over the past decade in enhancing the community of Crookston in many ways,” said Splash Park project lead Shirley Iverson, who is also a member of the CACF committee. “One component of the fund was utilized for fund raising the Crookston Splash Pad located at Highland Park, now Ray Ecklund Park Complex.”
Heroes Rise Coffee in Crookston temporarily closed
Crookston Times
Heroes Rise Coffee Company in Crookston is temporarily closed due to “massive equipment failure,” owner Matt VanGrinsven told the Times Monday. He says every piece of equipment they acquired when they took over the space formerly housed by Cofe has failed and they need to wait to see if they can get a loan from their bank or hear back from Crookston Housing & Economic Development Authority who they had an agreement with.
Heroes Rise opened on University Avenue in Crookston in December and serves specialty coffee, baked goods and lunches. VanGrinsven said they had to shut down their kitchen two weeks ago due to equipment failure and “piece by piece” machines are failing.
