1. First Avenue could open next week, or the week after
First Avenue south of Peace Plaza opened in time for the first Thursdays Downtown event, but the remainder of the street continues to be completed, with work ramping up this week.
Jamie Rothe, community engagement and experience director for Destination Medical Center Economic Development Agency, said the plan is to open the street toward the end of the month.
2. The plaza reopening remains uncertain
Nationwide supply chain and workforce issues have left some projected construction timelines in limbo.
While the plaza was expected to open next month, Rothe said the schedule has become less clear.

Summer fests are on the rise in Rochester and few are more anticipated than Thursdays Downtown.
Kanika Couchene, director of events and strategic partnerships for the Rochester Downtown Alliance, said the organization had been planning to bring back Thursdays Downtown well before the state OK d large outdoor gatherings.

(ABC 6 News) - Destination Medical Center Corporation in Rochester is working on something big.
Board members shared Wednesday updates to their numerous projects that will take place all over Rochester.
They are Discovery Square, Heart of the City, and the transportation experience.
For the Heart of the City, it’s focused on redeveloping Eastside of Peace Plaza. Second Street was complete in August. But there are four more parts of the Peace Plaza Public Realm Project yet to be completed. Peace Plaza is aiming to be complete by August 2021.
Jamie Rothe is the DMC EDA Director of Community Engagement and Experience. She says the project is ahead of schedule. She shares some good news for the businesses that are affected by construction.
