A Queensland scientist sacked after publicly criticising his colleagues’ research on climate change and the Great Barrier Reef will have the appeal against his dismissal heard in the High Court.
James Cook University fired Peter Ridd in 2018. The Federal Circuit Court awarded Dr Ridd $1.2 million in damages in 2019, before the university later won an appeal against that decision, meaning his compensation was set aside. Dr Ridd then decided to take the case to the High Court.
