Jeffrey Stokes, 73, had been a house-proud and dedicated family man. He was an accomplished builder, had run his own building firm, and lived in the house he had built himself in Yr Ochr, Froncysyllte. But in the last 12 months, after being diagnosed with motor neuron disease, his health deteriorated and he had not left the house, other than to be taken to medical appointments, between March and August of 2020. Mr Stokes was born and educated in Cannock in the West Midlands but had lived in North Wales for more than twenty years. It had become clear that something was ailing him during a family holiday to Bulgaria in 2019. He had fallen several times, after which he spent most of his time in his hotel room.
