News24 Wire Picture: iStock According to police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo, the victim – who was driving a Triton Mitsubishi bakkie at Stout Road next to the Faraday taxi rank – stopped at a traffic light when the man pointed the toy gun at him and demanded his cellphone. “The victim took out his licensed firearm and shot the suspect, who was later certified dead at the scene by the paramedics. Police found a firearm at the crime scene, suspected to have been used by the suspect,” Masondo said. Johannesburg Metro Police Department spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Wayne Minnaar, told News24 that the man used a toy gun.

Suspect carrying toy gun shot dead in foiled smash and grab in Joburg CBD Updated Neo Motloung Image courtesy: JMPD The tides turned on a suspect carrying a toy gun when a motorist fought back during a robbery attempt on Monday morning.  The alleged criminal was shot dead by the motorist in broad daylight over a cellphone.  Johannesburg Metro Police Department s (JMPD) spokesperson, Xolani Fihla, says the incident took place at Faraday Taxi rank in the Johannesburg CBD.  Medics were called to the scene and declared the suspect dead.  At the moment, the motive for the suspect it seemed that he wanted to smash and grab the cellphone, says Fihla.
