At least 100 bodies were recovered from some villages, a witness from one of the affected villages said he counted 70 dead bodies, while another said over 150 people were killed in his locality.
This is just as 44 persons were killed in attacks recorded in eight states between Friday and early hours of Sunday. 14 persons were also kidnapped in Kaduna State.
Two others were killed in Kuru village of Jos South on Sunday afternoon.
More than 52 cattle were shot dead in separate attacks in the LGAs.
Commenting on the incidents, a resident said, “The attackers came around 11: 30 p.m, while people were sleeping, and started shooting sporadically.
“They first killed a family member and later attacked another family and killed six including two teenagers.”
Contacted, the spokesman of the State Police Command, Ubah Gabriel, said “On Sunday 23/05/2021 at about 2000hrs, the Command received a distress call that yet to be identified gunmen came out suddenly from a near by bush, invaded Dong Village, Jos South LGA and killed seven persons.
The deceased were attacked in their residence around 11:30 pm on Sunday.

Seven people, including teenagers, have been killed in the Dong area of Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident comes less than 24 hours after two herders were killed around the Rantya area.

Gunmen attacked Dong Community in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau on Sunday and killed seven persons.
“At about 8 p.m. on Sunday, we received a distress call that gunmen invaded Dong Village and killed seven persons, police spokesman in Plateau, ASP Ubah Ogaba, said in a statement issued on Monday in Jos.
“A combined team of policemen, personnel of Operation Safe Haven, and Vigilance operatives, raced to the scene but the hoodlums had fled into the bush. x
“Investigation is on-going, Frantic effort is on to arrest the fleeing suspects.
“Meanwhile security has been beefed up in that area to prevent escalation of violence or reprisal,’’ he added.
