The day has finally arrived! Ingenuity, the little helicopter that tagged along to Mars with NASA s Perseverance rover, has now made history by achieving the first powered flight on another planet.

Ingenuity, the Mars Helicopter, is a ground-breaking technology demonstration to test powered, controlled flight on Mars. This is something that was once thought to be impossible, due to Mars extremely thin atmosphere. The mission team has now proved that this is, indeed, possible, and this could lead to new types of exploration on Mars.

NASA s Perseverance rover reached its destination on Mars. Now it will begin sending back data on Mars environment and atmosphere, becoming the third robotic meteorologist on the planet.
On February 18, the robotic population of Mars increased by two, as the Perseverance rover and its drone companion Ingenuity settled in and begin their preparations to explore Jezero Crater. Perseverance is equipped with an array of cameras and scientific instruments to help it complete its mission. Its primary purpose to look for signs that the ancient river delta located in Jezero was once home to microbial life forms.

All eyes are on Mars today, to witness the landing of NASA s Perseverance rover, which will search for signs that the Red Planet was once home to organic life.
On Thursday, February 18, 2021, at roughly 3:55 p.m. EST, the Perseverance rover safely arrived at its destination, touching down on the surface of Mars, in Jezero crater, after a nearly seven-month flight through space. The seven minutes prior to that, the final phase of its journey involved a daring dive through the Martian atmosphere to reach the surface.
