On a day of extreme speed, Screen Test found the biggest winning performance of his life with a 1:53.4 romp in the featured pace Sunday afternoon (July 18) at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
In line to Corey MacPherson in the $3,100 Preferred Pace, Screen Test went to the front from post 6 and was unchallenged for the duration of the mile on his way to a seven-length victory for a lifetime best. Power Of A Cruiser was second while Moonwriter was third. Ron Gass trains the winning horse for owners Kickin Horse Stable of York and William Andrew of Alberta.
The Kyles Williams stable was perfect on the afternoon card as the Tyne Valley conditioner sent horses to the gate in three races and won every event. Offshore Cowboy kicked off the action in Race 1 in line to Gilles Barrieau in a 1:59.1 win followed by a 1:59 lifetime best performance by Howmacs Hank (MacPherson) in Race 3. Williams and Barrieau reunited in Race 6 as Ruby Rae Crow had her first career win in 1:59.4.
Driver James MacDonald, trainer Nick Gallucci and owner-breeder George Millar teamed to win two of three Gold Series divisions for the two-year-old pacing fillies at Georgian Downs on Sunday (July 18).
Their first victory came with Silver Label in the first $69,733 division. Starting from post 5, Silver Label left smartly and settled behind favourite I Love Ongait as that filly led the field of eight to a :27 quarter and :55.2 half. Heading for the third marker, MacDonald put Silver Label on the attack and she and I Love Ongait battled to a 1:25.2 three-quarters before Silver Label was able to pull away in the stretch and secure the 1:55.3 victory. I Love Ongait settled for second, three and three-quarter lengths behind the winner, and Darby Ogill completed the top three.
