Last week, Ned Divine, Dunkirk Democratic chair, issued a news release stating incumbent Don Williams Jr., who was not endorsed by the committee, turned down a League of Women Voters sponsored debate with opponent Natalie Luczkowiak. “I was really looking forward to talking about the issues,” Luczkowiak said. “The voters of Dunkirk deserve to hear my opponent defend the city council failures and dysfunction that have permeated all the meetings of the last two years. Away from the city council, my opponent needs to answer why he isn’t supporting city resident Luz Torres to be our next county election commissioner.”

Dunkirk Mayor Wilfred Rosas Dunkirk Mayor Wilfred Rosas says the recent eight-page report compiled by attorney Dan Gard regarding the removal of a tree in 2019 is part of a “vindictive and mean-spirited agenda” by Common Council. In a statement released to the OBSERVER on Friday, Rosas outlines not only issues with the report brought forward by Councilman At-Large Paul VanDenVouver. He also takes issue with how council has worked with his administration since day one. During Tuesday’s meeting, VanDenVouver released the report that alleges there was work done in 2019 by city Department of Public Works employees over three days in August on private property. Gard’s recommendation in the report of the “large, unjustifiable and unconstitutional gift of municipal resources to a private individual” was to refer this matter to the appropriate enforcement agencies, recommending both the state comptroller’s office as well as the FBI’s Public Corruption Division.

jward@observertoday.com Dunkirk Mayor Wilfred Rosas and city Department of Public Works Director Randy Woodbury are pleased with the inter-community collaboration to link Dunkirk and Fredonia water systems on Vineyard Drive at Main Street. However, the following is offered to correct some details. “In two recent OBSERVER articles, it was not clear, although true, that the City of Dunkirk water supply to the village of Fredonia pump station has remained able to fully supply Fredonia’s requested sustained flow from Dunkirk at about 500,000 to 750,000 gallons per day,” stated Woodbury. “The delays in fully and flexibly operating the village pump station – as observed by city managers asked by Fredonia to be present at all of their start-up sessions – were not from lack of city supply.”

LED work underway in city | News, Sports, Jobs

Mar 6, 2021 Dunkirk Mayor Wilfred Rosas has announced the continuation of the LED lighting project in the city. “LED Energy Solutions and their contractors have begun work on Phase 2 of the project with expectations of its completion by Memorial Day.” Rosas said. “Upon completion of this project our city taxpayers will see an annual savings to of over a quarter of a million dollars. This is a project that we started three years ago, and I am excited to see it come to completion.” Steve Hotz, LED Energy Solutions Project Coordinator stated, “Working with Mayor Rosas and the city team has been a rewarding experience, and we at LED Energy Solutions are proud to be partners in this process of bringing LED lighting and a major cost savings to the city and its residents.
