North Dakota public health officials warn of rising Delta variant COVID-19 cases

North Dakota public health officials warn of rising Delta variant COVID-19 cases July 27, 2021 FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – As the Delta variant makes its way around North Dakota, public health officials are once again stressing the importance of getting vaccinated. An NDSU public health professor says it’s only a matter of time before those who are unvaccinated get infected. “As the World Health Organization calls it, they describe it as the fastest and the fittest. It seems to be able to outcompete all of the prior variants wherever it emerges,” said NDSU Professor of Public Health Dr. Paul Carson. There have been 25 confirmed cases of the Delta variant in North Dakota but public health officials say that number is underreported. That’s because not every person who tests positive for COVID-19 is tested for the variant.

ND Dept of Health shares difficulties ahead in vaccinating adolescents

KVRR Local News May 13, 2021 BISMARCK, N.D. (KVRR) – The North Dakota Department of Health shares why it’s so important to get 12 to 15 year olds vaccinated for Covid-19 now that the Pfizer vaccine is available to them. Health experts say children often show no symptoms or mild symptoms. They can also get multi system inflammatory syndrome which can lead to neurological disorders. North Dakota has seen one person age 12 to 17 die with Covid-19. The Health Department says it will be challenging to get people to vaccinate their children since some don’t want to get it themselves. “It’s definitely going to be challenging and I think it’s going to be a marathon and not a sprint. I think for childhood deaths in the United States the number of deaths are double what we see during flu season,” North Dakota Department of Health Immunization Program Manager Molly Howell said.

Burgum urges vigilance to keep COVID-19 numbers trending downward as statewide mask requirement expires Monday

Gov. Doug Burgum Friday urged North Dakotans to remain vigilant against COVID-19 as the state’s case numbers continue a downward trend and the State Health Officer’s statewide mask requirement expires Monday, Jan. 18. An executive order that limits capacity for bars, restaurants and event venues also will be modified, effective 8 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18, moving capacity limits and other ND Smart Restart protocols to guidelines, or recommendations. The statewide risk level will remain at moderate, or yellow. Burgum noted that cities and counties may continue to have mask requirements in place, and the state supports those locally enacted protocols.
