A Jamestown, N.D., man has been identified as the person who died last Thursday (May 20) in a two-vehicle crash east of Newell.
Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2010 GMC Acadia, westbound on U.S. Highway 212, rear-ended a trailer being pulled by a westbound semi-truck.
Dustin Vaughn, the 37-year-old driver of the Acadia, was pronounced dead at the scene. Brandi Glaser, the 24-year-old passenger from Jamestown, N.D., suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a Rapid City hospital. Both occupants were not wearing seat belts.
Michael Petersen of Ridgeview, S.D., 47, was the driver of the semi-truck. He was not injured and was wearing a seat belt.

One person died early Wednesday morning in a one-vehicle crash north of Groton, according to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
The crash happened at about 1 a.m. Wednesday on Highway 37, 16 miles north of Groton. A 2018 GMC Sierra pickup was southbound on Highway 37 when it left the roadway, went into a ditch and hit a telephone pole, the news release said.
The 39-year-old male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a seat belt, the statement said.
The name of the one person involved is not being released until family members have been notified.

A Cando, N.D., woman has been identified as the person who died Tuesday night in a two-vehicle crash west of Canistota.
Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2013 Ford Taurus was westbound on 261
st Street and did not stop for a posted stop sign. It collided in the intersection with a 2005 Chevy Suburban that was southbound on U.S. Highway 81.
Deborah Zikmund, 64, was driving the Suburban. She was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cate Meyer, 20, of Bridgewater, S.D., was the driver of the Taurus. She was wearing a seat belt, suffered serious non-life threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to a Sioux Falls hospital. Charges are pending.
