Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the commission approved a new starting wage for jail transport staff in an effort to entice more people to apply – $18.33 starting out to $19.33 for applicants with experience.
Emergency Manager Jeff Jensen told the board he could find no penalty listings for violating burn ban resolutions. Jensen asked the commission to consider two ordinances for the county:
1) Mandatory reporting of all open burning (not to include burn barrels) to the Mobridge Police Department; and
2) Instead of issuing burn ban resolutions, for the the county to go with the recommendations of the National Weather Service.
First readings of both ordinances will be listed on the next agenda.

PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) At least eight members of the South Dakota House of Representatives have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past week or so.
Among them is District 24 Rep. Will Mortenson of Pierre, who received his positive test result Friday. He says he started feeling unwell mid-week.
“Right away I didn’t feel that bad, other than that I was just totally wracked with worry and guilt over the people that I saw and the potential that I would have spread it around,” Mortenson said.
Mortenson says he’ll participate in the session remotely, as he feels up to it. He said he’d like to return when it’s safe to do so, but isn’t sure when that will be.
