Undersheriff: Man, woman, child died from exposure to cold

WEST BRANCH, Mich. (AP) A man, woman and their young son whose bodies were found in a remote area of northern Michigan died from exposure to cold weather, authorities said Wednesday.
Autopsies were performed four days after a snowmobiler found the bodies outside a pickup truck in Ogemaw County’s Rose Township. Toxicology tests will take more time.
“No foul play was involved,” Undersheriff Paul Frechette said. “The deaths are the result of tragic circumstances of the family being stranded out in the winter elements.”
Amanda Pomeroy, Douglas Dougherty and son Jacob lived in Bay City and were reported missing on Jan. 16. The boy was under a year old.

8-Month-Old Baby and Parents Found Dead in Ogemaw County

Many questions need answering after a family of three was found dead in a wooded area in Rose Township.
Amanda Pomeroy, 32, Douglass Dougherty, 35, and Jacob Dougherty, 8 months, were reported missing from Bay City on Jan. 16. On Jan. 23, a snowmobiler spotted their truck while riding out near Stoney Ridge Road in Rose Township and reported it to the police. Upon arrival, they found the three family members laying in a nearby snowbank.
Ogemaw County Sheriff Brian Gilbert said the family had been known to visit the area and they’re still trying to figure out exactly what happened. “We don’t feel there’s any foul play at this time but there is an autopsy scheduled for tomorrow so that will tie a lot of loose ends,” he said.

UNDATED (AP) The city of Detroit will dismiss most misdemeanor citations issued last spring during several days of protests against police brutality following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Most of the tickets written May 31 and June 2 were for curfew violations as hundreds of people demonstrated in downtown Detroit. Detroit Corporation Counsel Lawrence Garcia says Tuesday that the city expects to dismiss 238 of the 245 tickets issued on those three days. Dozens of demonstrators violated Detroit’s curfew requiring people to be off city streets after 8 p.m. and received appearance citations. Others were ticketed for disruptive or violent behavior. In addition to those in Detroit, charges that stemmed from demonstrations in some other U.S. cities also have been dismissed.

8-month-old Jacob, his dad Douglas Dougherty and his mom Amanda Pomeroy were found dead earlier this week in Ogemaw County. The Bay City family had been missing for days.
Dougherty s truck was found near a boulder on a thin snowmobile trail deep in the woods.
Their cause of death is under investigation.
