If at first you don t succeed in a run for governor, perhaps try again.
Former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, who ran and lost for governor in 2014 against Gov. Andrew Cuomo, added his name Monday to the list of Republican hopefuls looking to vie for the party s nod in 2022.
And this time, Astorino said he s ready to run whether his opponent is the embattled Cuomo or anyone else.
“I realize that this could go to a primary, which I’m certainly prepared to do,” Astorino, the 2014 Republican gubernatorial candidate, said in an interview on Monday.
Astorino, an ally of ex-President Donald Trump who spent eight years as county executive, was one of five potential candidates who spoke to state GOP leaders in Albany on Monday.

A string of potential gubernatorial candidates paraded through Albany on Monday, all vying for the Republican nomination in the race for governor in 2022.
Nine contenders made their pitch to Republican state and county leaders at a GOP forum.
Despite the packed field, there are only two candidates that have officially announced they are running.
U.S. Rep. Lee Zeldin is already positioned at the forefront of the race and has been touring the state in anticipation of taking on potentially Governor Andrew Cuomo.
