Mohammed Hamad (37) of The Elm, Parkview, Stepaside, Dublin pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to ten sample charges of theft of rent allowance, job seekers allowance and basic supplementary allowance on dates between May 2009 and October 2013.

Judge Martin Nolan said Mr Murphy had been “basically incinerated” in the attack in which he incurred severe knife injuries and burns to 96pc of his body. Judge Nolan said it seemed to him that for whatever reason, Groome had “murderous intent” that night but noted he had pleaded guilty to the offence of assault causing serious harm.

Pat Sheedy,  51, of Cliona Park, Moyross, Limerick has 59 previous convictions for fraud offences, many of which involve deception. A number of his previous convictions relate to offences which occurred in Limerick. Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard this Friday that in January 2019, Sheedy pleaded guilty to the theft of €548 from Westmeath publican Con Gilsenan.
