Early Friday at the Hudson leisure centre in Wisbech and the celebrations are about to begin as every available seat – for county, district and town – goes to the Conservatives.

And the pattern is repeated as the results are declared, Labour, Lib Dem, Green and other opposition parties or individual candidates swept away.

No one knows for sure, however, what affect the Hickford inquiry – that has come to be known as farmgate – will have on the minds of voters when they make their choices.
Fenland is critical to continued success for the party – it returned nine councillors, all Conservatives, for the eight divisions in 2017.
It includes the division of March North, the seat of council leader Steve Count, and that of Roman Bank where Simon King, eased out of Fenland Council by the Tory group over an expenses scandal, is clinging onto his political ambitions.
Wisbech itself may also offer an insight into how well independents fare with former Conservative turned independent Andy Maul taking on Steve Tierney.

Jessica Rowell has been helping clean up her village on her motorised truck and trailer since September last year.

A four-year-old girl who started picking up litter from the roadside has made “an inspirational impact” to clean up her village.
When Jessica Rowell moved to Murrow last year, she noticed something needed to be done about the litter scattered along the side of the road.
“One day, we noticed an excessive amount of rubbish, so Jess brought her truck and trailer along and picked it up,” Keleigh Fenn, Jessica’s mother, said.
